2014 Marketing Trends

There was plenty of innovation in 2013, but what about marketing trends in 2014. Here’s what we think the new year might bring.

2014 marketing trends

2014 Marketing Trends, our predictions.

1. Personalised communication – consumers expect a personalised experience of a brand and are more likely to use it if they get one. It’s about the rise of an end-to-end personal conversation.

2. TV advertising – traditional mass media will become more direct, where techniques like targeting, segmentation and analytics will have a significant place in online advertising.

3. Expectations anticipated – Amazon anticipate what types of book someone wants to read, Apple make recommendations about music or videos to listen to, other brands are expected to enhance their experience too in 2014.

4. Location-based marketing – there will be a continued proliferation of devices people will be carrying, using and depending on in 2014 and so there will be increased expectation of personalisation.

5. Brand producers – brands are moving beyond publishing content to setting up newsrooms or production studios, with Netflix (House of Cards), Red Bull (Media House) and Amazon (Alpha House), already part of this emerging trend.

6. Go-to viral tactic – images and videos will continue to expand as brands can use visuals to interact with their consumers and the newest group of influencers – visual influencers.

7. Advocacy – connecting to very targeted niche communities who are passionate (and sometimes highly influential) advocates; it will be about marketing with them, not to them.

8. Purchase-power – there’s a dramatic shift in time consumers spend on their mobile devices and the way it’s become the remote control for their lives and work, they are always on tap to buy something on their phone.

9. Multi-platform lives – as dual-screening is mainstream content must be compatible across all screens, for example video engages target markets to share content via social media using OPM (other people’s money). It will drive awareness for brands in 2014.

10. Wearable technology – Google Glass, fitness bands, Samsung Galaxy Gear will be everywhere in 2014. The data created will provide valuable insights from not only where customers are but when and how fast they respond, act, buy.

So keep an eye out for these trends and consider how your brand can get ahead of the competition in 2014.There’s a wealth of opportunity for brands, so why not share your predictions by leaving a comment below or on Twitter.
